What causes a sagging roof liner (face fabric)

A sagging roof liner also referred to as face fabric is a common problem in cars. The most common cause of a sagging roof liner is the sun. As the sun heats up your car, it expands and consequently causes the adhesive foam to lose its grip on the liner, which then starts to sag.

The other major cause of a sagging roof liner is water damage. When water gets into your car, it can seep into places where you don't want it to go, like under your headliner.

What is a car headliner

A headliner often is a composite material that is adhered to the inside roof of automobiles or yachts. It typically consists of a face fabric with nonwoven or foam backing. Headliners consist of multilayered composite materials that bring together multiple functionalities, including the requested look, feel, stiffness, and sound reduction needed in cars. Automotive headliners are optimised with respect to head impact counter measures[1] or to integrate additional LED lighting film behind the fabric. Most headliners consist of a tricot knit fabric that is napped to provide a soft touch and uniform appearance. The fabric is adhered to melted polyurethane foam. This fabric-foam composite is glued to the interior fiberglass roof of the automobile. - Wikipedia

How do I fix a sagging car roof liner and how much does it cost?

There are a few ways you can fix a sagging roof liner depending on the extent of damage. You can use a vacuum cleaner to suck up debris from under the lining and then use a seam sealer to seal off any holes in it before gluing it back to the roof with specialty products.

If you have a more serious issue, you will need to replace your roof lining altogether.

The cost for fixing your roof liner depends on what needs to be done and how much material is needed for repairs. It is possible that replacing your entire roof lining could cost up to $2,000 or more depending on what type of material you want and how much work needs to be done.

Sometimes it is much more practical to hire a professional, especially when you do not have the skills or time to repair or replace your roof lining.

We will fix the sagging headliner fabric for you by removing all debris from the area, replacing any loose or torn fabric, then adding a layer of foam before gluing the fabric to the roof interior with adhesive to help prevent future sagging.
